The Islands have a unicameral parliamentary democracy with the British Monarch as Head of State, represented by a local Governor-General, who is recommended to the Queen by National Parliament. The sixth and current Governor-General is Sir Nathaniel Waena. Parliament has 50 members, including 20 Cabinet Ministers, who elect the Prime Minister. General elections are held every four years. Every resident of the Islands over 18 is entitled to vote.
